Supporting Documentation: Operating expenses per square metre of Crown-owned space


The results are based on industry standard cost categories associated with the operation and maintenance of buildings, including cleaning, utilities, administration, repair/maintenance, and security/roads/grounds. Costs are divided by rentable square meter to calculate a cost per square meter result.

Note: Between 2020-21 and 2021-22, the method used to assess the operating expenses of Crown-owned office space was amended to include a wider list of expense types that had been previously excluded from the calculations. The inclusion of these additional expense categories resulted in a higher difference in the reported costs per metre squared of rentable space.
