Definitions

Commodity
Goods or services utilized in everyday endeavours, which are identified by contents, physical nature or characteristics.
Non-Sourceable Expenditures
Any expenses wherein the price of goods and services are fixed and non-negotiable. These include fees, licenses, tolls, etc.
Pass -Through Expenditures
Any internal expenses as a result of intermediate of interdepartmental agreements (IDAs), MOUs etc
Sourceable Expenditures
Any expenses wherein the prices of goods and services are negotiable and subject to market forces.
Spend Cube
An interactive Database comprehensive, detailed and consistent spending information. This information is fed by departments and agencies across the government, with the help of the Business Analytics Services Directorate of Public Works and Government Services Canada.
Spend Cube Taxonomy
The Spend Cube`s categorization rubric used by the Business Analytics Services Directorate that details the hierarchical classification of expenditures by commodity group, commodity category and commodity subcategory.
Not Classified
Wherein the spend cube taxonomy (Category/Subcategory) has not been in applied to expenditure data.

General Note

In July 2025, as the data files of the Achived, GC Spend Data dataset were being migrated to new servers, it was noted that the Government of Canada Spend Data FY2012-2013 CSV file contained incomplete values for 29 of its rows, resulting in an under-reporting of $834,812.76 across all records in this file. The following rows were amended in this file to the correct values:
