General Notes

As of February 2024, this dataset has been archived and replaced by the Losses of Public Money or Property as per the Public Accounts of Canada dataset.

As of 2025, the following columns were renamed to remain in sync with the rest of the Public Accounts datasets:

Archived, Losses of public money or property—Update to cases reported in previous years' Public Accounts of Canada

These data files contained both the original loss, as reported in the public accounts (table 4, 4a, 4b and 4c), as well as updates to these existing losses (table 4d). Original losses are indicated by having the column Yr-loss-rptd_Ex-fin-perte-rppt as blank, while updates to previously reported losses will display the original year the loss was reported in this column.

Note: Amount not expected to be recovered (Loss-recvry-not-expctd_Perte-recvrmt-non-prevu) and amount expected to be recovered in subsequent years (Loss-recvry-expctd_Perte-recvrmt-prevu) for cases before the Courts (Canada Revenue Agency's estimate of the amount of tax evaded or fraudulently obtained), which can be found under column Incdnt-desc_Desc-incdnt_eng, can only be estimated following a court conviction. Therefore there are not presented.
