Supporting Documentation: Mapping of Public Accounts of Canada Tables to Open Government Datasets

Financial information is published in the Public Accounts of Canada at the end of each fiscal year, and Open Government publishes this data in CSV format for public use. This dataset maps the tables from the Public Account of Canada to the corresponding Open Government dataset.

1- Volume II of the Public Accounts of Canada

• Other than for Section 1 of this volume, all the related table links provided in the mapping dataset lead to the table of contents for Volume II: Details of Expenses and Revenues, which contains multiple sections: A Summary section, sections for each Ministry, and an index
• Clicking into each Ministry section leads to a page with lists of the departments that fall under that Ministry, followed by a table of contents with 7 sub-sections. The corresponding Open Government datasets are structured to align with these sub-sections and each dataset contains the data for all reported Ministries:
  • Core responsibility descriptions: Text description, no table to match a dataset to
  • Ministry summary: The corresponding dataset is not available for publication yet
  • Budgetary details by allotment: The corresponding dataset provided in the mapping contains data for all 27 ministries
  • Core responsibilities: The corresponding dataset provided in the mapping contains data for all 27 ministries
  • Transfer payments: The corresponding dataset provided in the mapping contains data for all 27 ministries
  • Details of respendable amounts: The corresponding dataset provided in the mapping contains data for all 27 ministries
  • Revenues: The corresponding dataset is not available for publication yet

2- Volume III Section 9 of the Public Accounts of Canada

• The table link provided in the mapping dataset leads to the table of contents for Section 9 of Volume III: Federal-provincial shared-cost programs, which contains 16 sub-sections for each Ministry
• Each Ministry has its own table, but the corresponding dataset provided in the mapping combines these tables into one CSV file
